So last night I put Dante to bed and I am preparing for his preschool when I look out the glass door in my kitchen and there is a man right next to the glass looking in the window... Like 2 feet away from me, in my back yard, ready to try and open the door or something. I screamed so loud and he looked shocked or surprised or something for a second , then he took off. I stood there shaking for a minute before I called 911. It was so weird I was seriously frozen with fear. I always close my blinds b/c I imagine this happening all the time and it freaks me out but this time I left it open on accident and it happened for real. Of course Fede is gone for 3 weeks and I have to live alone 3 weeks out of the month every month. I can't be brave now that my sanctuary was violated!
The 911 lady was really great and talked to me until the police came and checked out all the surrounding yards. I realized talking to her that maybe they thought we were still on vacation. after the police had checked things out i checked the windows and 2 were unlocked and easy to enter! Plus fede's truck was totally unlocked. The police told me that one problem is our street is too dark and with all of our neighbors, including our house, with no outside lights on its a prime target. So looks like I need to go get some motion detectors, mace maybe?, a bat? I'm not getting a gun because I would just get hurt.
I really hope I can sleep tonight without being terrified. Not cool dude, not cool!

oh my gosh, every time I look outside at night I imagine that exact thing happening. How scary! Was fede home? Glad you're safe, leave your porch light on at least. Have ALL your neighbors leave the outdoor lights on, thiefs don't like lights.
YIKES!!!! Now I'M freaked, too!! We often sleep with our window open! I'm checking ALL the windows tonight! and I think the motion detector is a GREAT idea! EEEWWWWW! I just feel icky now! Glad you are safe!
I read this last night and couldn't stop thinking of you. I hope everything is ok and you aren't too freaked out!
so yes I am scared at night. I am usually a little scared anyways. (too many scary movies) i don't even like washing my face at night b/c I have to close my eyes. and this is me normally! last night I was ok as long as I didn't have to go downstairs.
Oh my gosh, that is crazy scary! Be safe Marsha - do whatever you need to!
Um, that is totally and completely freaky! I'm so glad everything was fine. But yea, this kind of stuff reminds me that we can't be too careful, ever.
Scary, scary, scary. You might think about getting a tazer. My mom is going to get one. It will aleviate the problem of killing yourself or someone else with a gun, but still have some protection. I'm glad you're good! Put some lights out there and say your prayers every night.
oh my heck! that is seriously freaky. I too imagine such things. Thats why I like living on the second floor of an apartment building, whether its any more secure or not, it feels it and there's very little chance of someone meeting me face to face at my window! yikes yikes and yikes.
